Mapping is taking a larger space in strategic representation ! It's nice because it's quick and you can put a lot of data inside. I love mapping. I found a great post from apophenia on this subject.
First a global map of online communities (click on it to enlarge). Avc used it to illustrate the fact that Microsoft is looking to buy Yahoo. Probably the right strategy even if I think that Yahoo is in a better situtation that always illustrated (closer to the sea of culture).
But the post links to an even better one. Internet companies are compared to countries. It's fun, abrasive and probably the best series of comments i've read for a very long time. So let me summarize
MSFT = Germany
YHOO = Japan (I agree : MITI Strategy ! And they are mis-looked as canada)
GOOG = USA
-- and from the comments --
SUN = France
Apple = Netherlands
CSCO = Russia
